SUMMARY: The goal of this funding program is to enhance and enrich community programs that primarily benefit children and families. The majority of grants support organizations that: promote the safety, security, and well-being of children and families deliver education and health programs provide community service opportunities aid in hunger and disaster relief.

Youth Funding Opportunities - December Deadline

Learn and Serve America Summer of Service FY10

SUMMARY: Summer of Service grants will support collaborative efforts to implement community-based service-learning projects during the summer months. Programs will engage middle school students (students who will be enrolled in grades 6 through 9 in the school year following the end of the summer) in community-based service-learning projects that are intensive, structured, supervised, and designed to produce identifiable improvements to the community. This opportunity should provide youth, particularly those from disadvantaged circumstances, with service-learning experiences that will motivate them to become more civically engaged and aspire to obtain higher education. Program participants must complete at least 100 hours of service within the summer program. For this competition, service activities should address environmental and/or disaster preparedness issues relevant to the community served.

ELIGIBILITY: Institutions of higher education, public or private nonprofit organizations (including faith-based organizations), public or private elementary or secondary schools, local educational agencies, or a consortium of such entities. Grantees must have experience managing a summer youth program that accommodates at least 100 youth at a time, and must have access to existing infrastructure to support recruitment, enrollment, training and supervision for the youth, and tracking of volunteer hours.

AWARD: Seven awards. Awards range from $50,000-$250,000

Youth Funding Opportunites - Ongoing Funding

Dare to Dream Grant Program

SUMMARY: This grant opportunity is designed to support faith-based organizations that work with children under the age of 12.

ELIGIBILITY: Faith-based organizations that focus on children under the age of 12 who are considered "at-risk". Must have 501(c)(3) status. At-risk children are children at a disadvantage academically, economically, socially, and/or spiritually.

AWARD: Awards range from $1000,-$10,000. Typical results are $1000-$8000.

DEADLINE: January 6 – Cycle 1 OR July 6 – Cycle 2 of each year.

Charles Lafitte Foundation

SUMMARY: CLF's mission is to provide for and support inventive and effective ways of
helping people help themselves and others around them to lead healthy, satisfying, and
enriched lives. To fulfill this mission, the foundation acts as grant maker, innovator, and
volunteer for four main programs: education, children's advocacy, medical research and issues,
and the arts.

Youthworks Foundation

SUMMARY: YouthWorks Foundation was established to serve as the strategic means of redistributing resources for YouthWorks, Inc., an organization that works with churches across North America to provide week-long, Christ-centered, life-changing youth mission trips. YouthWorks Foundation focuses its giving on supporting Christ-centered, enterprising ministries located in communities served by YouthWorks that have, after initial funding, the capacity to become self-sustaining.

The LEGO Children's Fund

SUMMARY: The LEGO Children's Fund is committed to helping children (age birth to 14) develop their creativity and learning skills through constructive play. The Fund provides grants to nonprofit organizations that offer innovative projects to cultivate and celebrate a child's exploration of personal creativity and creative problem-solving. Primary areas of support include: early childhood education and development, technology and communication projects that advance learning opportunities, and sports or athletic programs that concentrate on underserved youth.

ELIGIBILITY: Nonprofits with 501 (c)(3) and educational organizations as defined in USC 25 & 170 (C).

AWARD: $500-$5,000

DEADLINE: Applications are received quarterly on the first of these months, February, May, August, and November. Visit their Web site for guidelines
