Kasich Announces Appointment to Kettering Municipal Court January 30, 2015 COLUMBUS - Today Governor John R. Kasich announced the appointment of James F. Long of Dayton (Montgomery Co.) to serve as a judge on the Kettering Municipal Court. Long will assume office on February 5, 2015, and must run in November 2015 to retain the seat for the remainder of the unexpired term, which ends December 31, 2017. Long is replacing Judge Thomas M. Hanna, who retired. Long received his bachelor of arts in political science and public administration from Ohio Northern University and his juris doctorate from The Ohio State University's Moritz College of Law. Previous experience includes establishing his own private law practice, serving as an assistant public defender for Montgomery County and serving as a prosecutor for the City of Kettering. Long is currently a citizen police academy instructor and has been a guest lecturer for the criminal justice program at Sinclair Community College. He has also served as a coach and mentor for various sports teams in the community, including his current role as assistant program coordinator and head coach of the South Dayton Knights Basketball Club.
