Lance Himes Named as Director of Ohio Department of Health June 20, 2017 COLUMBUS—Today, Lance Himes was named by Gov. John R. Kasich to be director of the Ohio Department of Health, where he has been interim director since March 31, 2017. He also served as the department’s interim director from February to August 2014. An attorney with the Ohio Department of Health for more than 13 years, Himes was named General Counsel in October 2011. Throughout his career with the department, Himes has specialized in environmental health and public health compliance issues, playing a key role in coordinating the state’s Ebola response in 2014. Himes is a member of the Ohio Public Health Association. Before joining the Department of Health, he practiced law in Cincinnati for seven years. He graduated from Wittenberg University with a bachelor’s degree majoring in business and geography, and received his law degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law.
