For the past several years, We Are IT has been a successful statewide initiative to increase the number of females enrolling in Information Technology (IT) and other Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)-related Career-Technical Education (CTE) workforce development programs. The purpose of the specific day, which will be Nov. 13 this year, is to engage girls in Grades 7-10 in activities related to these careers as offered on Ohio college campuses. Last year, 2,500 girls participated with 18 colleges and universities.
The statewide initiative is led by the Ohio Department of Education andguided by the Ohio Business IT Advisory Network (with representatives from Ohio business and industry, the Ohio Board of Regents, representatives from Ohio high schools and career centers offering CTE-funded IT programs and faculty from selected Ohio community colleges with IT related majors). The deadline for college participation during this fiscal year (FY2010) is Sept. 15, 2009. Each recipient receives $2,500 to help cover costs of the planning and activity related to Nov. 13 We Are IT Day.

Please be aware of a change regarding the FY2010 grant funding that has been implemented through the ODE Fiscal Office. The process for receiving the grant funds will be a reimbursement process. This means that after your activities are completed you will submit one Project Cash Request (PCR) with your Final Expenditure Report (FER). This should streamline your process.
We Are IT Day is supported through federal Carl. D. Perkins funds.
