Interim Director of the Ohio Department of Administrative Services
Matt Whatley was appointed interim director of the Ohio Department of Administrative Services (DAS) in March 2021. He was most recently senior assistant director of DAS, a position in which he aided the DAS director with managing the day-to-day operations of DAS.
Matt has extensive experience in government relations and policy. Prior to joining DAS in September 2017, he served as chief of staff for the Ohio Department of Higher Education for more than four years.
Originally from Cleveland, Matt came to Columbus in 1999 when he went to work for former Ohio House Speaker Jo Ann Davidson as an intern and then budget analyst before spending two years as a legislative aide to State Representative John Carey. He then served in various Ohio Senate positions for more than 10 years, including as a legislative aide for then State Senator John Carey, as well as serving as deputy finance director for more than six years.
Currently a resident of Upper Arlington, Matt also has worked in the private sector, including as vice president for state government relations for the UnitedHealth Group.
